Clinical Scientist Training Program
The Clinical Scientist Training Program at Baylor College of Medicine is committed to educating and training highly motivated individuals to become successful, independent clinical investigators and future leaders in academic medicine and biomedical research. It is designed primarily for junior faculty and senior sub-specialty fellows at Baylor. The program is supported by a K-30 grant from the National Institutes of Health.
The deadline for application to the program is March 1 of each year, for matriculation on July 1. You must have a position at BCM with at least 75 percent protected time for research and research-related activities.
Fundamentals of Clinical Investigation
5:30 - 7:30 p.m., July 7 - 31, 2008, Alkek N-315
This course provides an introduction to clinical research for physicians and other health-care workers. Lectures focus on how to critically interpret the clinical experimental literature, how to identify the various clinical research designs, basic biostatistics, manuscript writing, and the ethical conduct of clinical research.
This is a core course for the Clinical Scientist Training Program, but it is open to anyone who is interested in an overview of clinical research. It is particularly suitable for post-graduate fellows and junior faculty about to embark on research. The course may be audited or taken for credit. It is accredited by the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences for 3 credit hours and there will be an exam at the end, which will be graded.
The lectures on the ethical conduct of research fulfill the NIH/BCM requirement for researchers to be educated in this area, and may be taken alone, without a commitment to the whole course.
